Cyren is a seafood restaurant located next to the Hard Rock Cafe, Darling Harbour. We went on a Thursday night and it was particularly quiet, which worked in our favour because it meant the wait staff had no reason to refuse separate billing. We sat outside and had an amazing view of the city across the water.

The staff were friendly and incredibly willing to help in any way possible. The food was quick and we were still on our first drinks when the entrees arrived. The lobster and crab ravioli [pictured below] was surprisingly delicate and sweet. Nothing beats home-made pasta. Nothing. The sauce was slightly tangy, contrasting the pasta perfectly. As someone who was dubious about the dish due to my slight aversion to adventurous seafood, I was so amazed by this dish that I wanted to stab Jack in the face with a fork for not ordering it as well. The salt and peper calamari was also a good entree option.

The main courses were (almost) all absolutely amazing! Those on our table that ordered steak were thoroughly impressed and the seafood dishes were awesome. The mussel pot was fresh, however I always find that cream-based sauces, whilst delicious, never spread through mussels the same way tomato-based sauces do. But once you get through enough mussels to come across the sauce at the bottom of the pot, it all seems worth it. The white-wine cream sauce had just the right amount of chilli (as requested), and I will happily admit that I managed to consume every last drop of it. The meal came with two slices of not-very-fresh bread, which would be my only dissatisfaction of this dish.

The fettucini carbonara [pictured top] was really the only disappointment of the night. It looked amazing, hence using it as the first photo, but it was far from great tasting. The sauce was too thick, and basically just tasted of cheese. It should’ve been listed as ‘fettucini cheese-o-rama’!

I know it’s nothing, but there were a few very minor issues with the staff, ie. incorrectly matching meals with their orderers, not providing fresh cutlery after the entrees… but really it was still a great experience. In fact, we tipped!
